Does TimberSIL® fade in the sunlight?
Unless coated with stain, sealer, or paint, the wood will age like any real wood, commonly referred to as graying out or turning silver in color.
Will TimberSIL® take stain and paint?
Yes, you can stain or paint it immediately. there is no need to wait months to stain or paint it because it is about-dried after treatment.
Can I use TimberSIL® on docks?
TimberSIL® can be used in marine applications over fresh and salt ware because it is entirely non-toxic and non-leaching. Because of its hardness, TimberSIL® is resistant to marine worm borers.
Will the wood warp or twist?
TimberSIL® experiences far less warping, cracking or twisting than raw wood or treated wood. The low moisture levels and large quantities of amorphous glass in TimberSIL® Products reduce the overall movement of the lumber due to the natural warp-resistance properties of glass. Is TimberSIL® petrified wood?
No, we just encase the fibers of the wood in amorphous glass, inside and out. The glass component reduces the amount of water intake therefore increasing stability and reducing movement.
Will I cut myself running my hand over the wood, or will I get glass on my skin if I cut the wood?
No, the amorphous glass contained in TimberSIL® is microscopic in size.
Can you mill the wood after it has been treated with TimberSIL®?
Yes, TimberSIL® may be milled; it has been used to produce spindles, balusters, and parts for window manufacturing.
Does amorphous glass in the wood make it harder to cut, and will it harm saw blades?
The saw blade will actually make an easier, smoother cut through TimberSIL® Products. TimberSIL® Products are similar to hardwoods in hardness, and saw blade wear is similar to that for hardwoods.
